Faculty-Staff Ministry this week (April 2012)

Dear Faculty & Staff,
Welcome to a new community of colleagues. Each week, we post this bulletin to help keep you connected and flourishing–through your vocation–in love for God, God’s Word, God’s people of every kind, and God’s purposes in the world (and on campus!) Read on, then participate as you are able:
Gathering Together:
TUESDAYS, join colleagues from across campus for a brown-bag lunch (bring it or buy it) at 12 pm in Atwood’s Columbine room–northeast upper floor–for thoughtful conversation, a brief devotion, and prayer for each other, our campus and the community. Do join us if you able! Alternatively, propose a time for coffee and let’s gather for a good visit.
Stories for Academia:
Encouragement and exhortation for your good work among the people, ideas and structures of the university is often found at Faculty Common’s Ministry Minute, and InterVarsity’s Emerging Scholars Network. And, we hope to begin collecting local narratives and vingettes as well!
Exploring God’s Word:
The biblical texts this week from the revised common lectionary are for the approaching Sunday. For reflection, how do your insights about God’s character, and God’s relationship with and among us affect your work at the university this week? Perhaps even reply with your thoughts.
Purposeful Prayers:
We invite you to collectively pray for each other, our campus, and the community. We welcome your prayer requests or praises so that we can pray along with you regardless of your presence at lunch! (Simply reply to this note.) This month, please pray for…
  1. Faculty, staff and students in the College of Liberal Arts
  2. Students facing end-of-studies, and the life shaping decisions that follow
  3. Wisdom in decisions for upcoming fall planning

May God bless you today!

Kirsten

    Hi Kirsten,
Here is my favorite part from the Phillipians reading above: 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

But that Matthew one was wierd. What’s up with that one?

Thanks for the note, Julie! Yes, the Phillipians text was a great reminder for me as well, and it is good to pray that together too! If you can make it on Tuesday, we read the text together and discuss the favorites and the ‘weird’ ones :) Blessings on your week! – K
